Homework for Wed 9/4/14 - Write a paragraph (at least 1/2 page long) explaining what you think are the top three reason why we should study history. You may use the video clip we watched in class or any other appropriate resource you can find. Homework for Tues 9/9/14 - Write a paragraph (at least 1/2 page long) explaining your answer to the Guiding Question: "Did Pocahontas actually save John Smith?" Use at least three pieces of evidence to support your answer.
Homework for Wed 9/10/14 - Interview a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or any adult who is able to speak to you about the events of Sept 11th. Use the interview questions (found in social studies documents under "9/11 interview"). You may add additional questions or replace questions with alternate questions that may lead to interesting information. At least 2-3 bullet points per question. You may do the assignment on loose leaf, in your notebook, or print the document.
Homework for Tues 9/16/14 - Write a paragraph (at least 1/2 page long) explaining your answer to the Guiding Question: "Are we the nation we set out to be?" Use at least three pieces of evidence from your American Ideals activity to support your answer.

Homework for Tuesday 11/18/14 - Answer GQ1: Is the Electoral College a reasonable solution to the problem of how to elect our President? and GQ2: Which Branch of the federal government do you think has the most powerful checks and balances over the other two branches?
Homework for Thursday 11/20/14 - Identify at least 3 of the best arguments that you anticipate your opponent making in the Federalist vs Anti-Federalist debate. Describe the counterpoint that you will make for each of the three anticipated arguments.
Homework for Tuesday 11/25/14 (due Mon 12/1) - Rank order what you think are the five most important amendments within the Bill of Rights (the 1st ten amendments). Write a detailed paragraph (1/2 to 3/4 page in length) in your notebook explaining why you ranked them the way you did. Start your paragraph with what you think is the 5th most important Amendment and end the paragraph with what you think is the #1 most important Amendment. Example: I think the 10th Amendment is the 5th most important Amendment because it limits the powers of the federal government while reserving powers to the state government which could unify the combative federalists and anti-federalists.
Homework for Wednesday 12/3/14 - Explain to your parent/guardian or any adult living near your home (Grandparent, neighbor...) "How a Bill Becomes a Law". Use the flowchart that you were given in class and have the adult sign your flowchart as proof that you explained the process. Be sure to explain why the process is such a lengthy and complicated process.

Homework for Monday 1/12/2015 - Write 2 paragraphs in response to the EQ: How did the industrial revolution change American life? First paragraph should rank order the top three inventions and justify why they deserve their ranking (focus on their overall impact on U.S. history). Second paragraph should discuss the general impact of the entire Industrial revolution on American life. Use the "US First Presidents" PowerPoint in SS Documents as a resource.

Homework for Tuesday 3/10/2015 (Due Wed 3/11) Complete at least 3 subtopics on each side of the "Who's fault was the Civil War?" Debate Chart (3 rows on each side = 12 boxes total). You should prepare arguments on both sides and be ready to defend either the North or South. You will be assigned a side for the debate on Wednesday and time to collaborate with your group to plan and organize your debate strategy. The debate will take place on Thursday, 3/12. Use your History Alive Reading notes, American Journey Textbook, and the following link which will give you some insight on the Southern Perspective on the Causes of the Civil War:

Read the NY Times Upfront Article "How Slavery Really Ended in America" and created a bulleted list, timeline, or flowchart that shows the sequence of events that led to the end of slavery. Read the article 21st Century Slaves and write one paragraph sumerizing the article and one paragraph of your reactions (thoughts, feelings, connections to Pre-civil war Slavery in America, proposed solutions about what the world should do to end slavery...)
