Audition Tips
Audition Tips:

If you're feeling nervous - that's normal!  Nervousness is just another way of being excited!

Remember, everything you need to know to audition (in terms of content) we will give you on your teaching day.  On that day you will receive a vocal audition piece, some script excerpts for scene work and learn a section of choreography.  Here are some helpful tips are you prepare to get your mind ready!!

What we're looking for:

Acting tips:

Articulation and Pacing - can we understand you?
Projection - can we hear you?  (This one's really important!)
Character development - are you incorporating facial expressions, inflections, and movement that portray the character?  Use the character descriptions we gave you to help you through this!
Risk taking - Be confident!  Put yourself out there!  Take a risk!  Tell the story!  Be big!
Preparation - Have you read through the monologues out loud before? (It makes a difference!)  Do you know who you are, where you are, and how to pronounce everything?

Singing tips:

Sing the correct pitches and rhythms!
Be healthy!  If you are comfortable in chest voice - great!  If you are comfortable in head voice - also great!  We don't want you to strain!
Projection - can we hear you?
Acting - yes, that's part of singing!  Continue to act the part of PT, or Tom Thumb, or Joice Heth as you sing!  This includes facial expression and possibly movement!
If you make a mistake - keep going!  Mistakes happen!  Even during performances!
Breathe!  Taking a deep, supported breath before each phrase will help to counteract those pesky nerves.

Dancing tips:

Doing the right steps is helpful! :)
Put energy into every move!
This is a happy song so smile!
If you make a mistake - keep going! Mistakes happen!  Even during performances!

Above all - BE PREPARED!  We are looking for a responsible cast who we can depend on to be at rehearsals for the next 6 months AND be a pleasure to work with! Don't lose your music!  Already did?  Be proactive, make a copy from a fellow potential cast mate!

See you on teaching day!
Happy practicing!
