6th Grade Cycle Art
Recycled Garbage Masks

Over the course of the school year, faculty members have generously gathered and donated recycled items for use in the art room.  These teachers shared plastic lids, containers, cardboard boxes, the core of paper towel rolls and much more in an effort to help our 6th grade cycle art students create these creative relief sculptures.

Students rummaged through these discarded items to find features for a mask.  The goal was to produce a sculpture that demonstrates and understanding of asymmetrical balance.  In addition, students focused on incorporating the principals of design to produce a unified work of art from these random materials.  In the process, students also learned about color theory and practiced color mixing techniques.

We hope you enjoy these whimsical sculptures.  Perhaps this will inspire you to think creatively about alternative uses for the next piece of  garbage you are about to throw out.
